Heat Damage and Drying Effects on Seed Quality
نویسندگان
چکیده
Heat damage to seed can occur as a result of the cumulative effects of respiration and fungal heating, and by the accumulation and retention of radiant heat within the seed mass following harvest both situations being collectively referred to as ‘field heating’. Another type of heating damage occurs in heated air drying systems. Excessive drying air temperature can have deleterious effects on seed quality this is generally referred to as “drying damage”. Both ‘field heating’ and ‘drying damage’ result in loss of quality due to the thermosensitivity of seeds. This is a characteristic which is markedly influenced by the seed moisture content, by the extent and duration of heat production, and by the retention of heat within the seed mass. The role of the thermophilic fungi, Aspergillus spp., in accentuating heat damage, and the effects of both ‘field heat’ and ‘drying damage’ on the market acceptability and quality of seed is also discussed.

Effect of Zinc and Boron Application on Wheat Mother Plant under Heat Stress on Cell Membrane Integrity of the Produced Seed and Physiological Quality of Seedling
Extended Abstract Introduction: Providing important and effective elements such as zinc and boron- especially in areas where the soil for some reason cannot meet the needs of the plant- will be a good solution to improve seed and seedling quality and nutrition, and community health status. A considerable part of the wheat producing regions in the country are faced with late season haet during ...
متن کاملHeat and Mass Transfer in Leather Drying Process
Leather manufacturing involves a crucial energy-intensive drying stage in the finishing process to remove its residual moisture. Determining drying characteristics of leather is vitally important so as to optimize the drying stage. This paper describes an analytical way for determination of the drying characteristics of leather. The model presented, is based on fundamental heat and mass tra...
متن کاملSperm freeze-drying; effects on sperm parameters
Today, sperm cryopreservation is a routine practice in infertility clinics. One of the alternative methods to preserve sperm is freeze-drying. This process consists of three steps. The first step is sample freezing, during which the solvent is separated from the solvent. Water forms ice crystals and the solute is placed between the ice crystals. Freezing may be done in a separate device or in a...

Cereal Chem. 78(5):625–628 Heat damage is a serious problem frequently associated with wet harvests because of improper storage of damp grain or artificial drying of moist grain at high temperatures. Heat damage causes protein denaturation and reduces processing quality. The current visual method for assessing heat damage is subjective and based on color change. Denatured protein related to hea...
متن کاملEffect of Sunflower Seed Drying on Some Quality Parameters of the Seed and Oil
Drying temperature and time effect on oil quality parameters of both seed and kernel from a sunflower hybrid of potential high oil content was evaluated. Drying tests were carried through two treatments of thin layer drying, consisting the first in getting the equilibrium moisture content and the second a safe storage moisture value, both in a range of temperatures from 25 °C to 90 °C. Prolonge...
